The Sherry Austin Band

» gritty folk with a bit of twang

The Sherry Austin Band has been entertaining audiences throughout California since 2000. The band has performed on the main stage at the Kate Wolf Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, and the American River Music Festival.

Sherry Austin on guitar and vocals;
Lisa Burns on bass;
Steve Perez on guitar and vocals.

"Sherry's voice is like catching a good wave. It's smooth, comfortable, free and fun. But every now and then it slaps you awake and demands every bit of your attention. It's the homey comfort of Dale Evans blended with the crisp edginess of a cool California blonde."

-Sleepy John, host of "Please Stand By,"
KPIG 107.5 FM, Freedom, Calif.

"Sherry Austin goes beyond the singer/songwriter genre with her Texas-style roadhouse originals and choice of covers. Her material has the rough-hewn sensitivity of a Robert Earl Keen, a Fred Eaglesmith, or a Slaid Cleaves, but her powerful, clear voice adds a feminine dimension that is totally fresh. People listening across the country are going to get a whole new feel for a popular form because now it's coming from a woman's perspective. "

& Acoustic Concert Series

Flatpick Sidekicks

» Americana, folk & originals featuring old-time sibling harmony and lively guitar duets

Anne and Phil Pflager have been celebrating music and marriage for the past forty-eight years. Singing frequently at home and at social events was an enjoyable pastime until the children left home. That's when they decided to get serious about music. Their performances, full of warmth, wit, and close harmony are an eclectic mixture of the past and present. Both are tenors and strive to blend their voices in the "sibling" style of the thirties.

Phil has played guitar and banjo since he was fourteen and has developed a bluesy, country rock style. Anne more recently began playing guitar and has developed her own style, sometimes reminiscent of Mother Maybelle Carter. They recently began playing duets on the guitars with entertaining counter melodies interwoven into the tunes. They both play multiple instruments and trade off on string bass which is also used in their performances.

They have performed as Ambergrass Express at the 2001 Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, as Annie and the Vets opening for Country Joe McDonald, performed at the 2006 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco, and as Ambergrass Unlimited at Vasona Vibrations in past years including 2005 and 2007.

David Correa and Cascada

» passionate and distinctive blend of Gypsy Flamenco, Spanish Guitar, and Latin American folk melodies

Cascada: the Spanish word for cascade or waterfall.

Over the last ten years this Latin Guitar World Fusion Band from the San Francisco Bay Area has steadily built a fresh new sound: an original hand-crafted version of Nouveau Flamenco. Cascada's Spanish Guitar music combines Mexican and Central American folklorico with rumbas, tangos, and fandangos; then masterfully adds Middle Eastern melodies and Southern Spanish Gypsy styles to the mix, creating a distinctive music all their own.

Cascada was named Best Latin Band in the North Bay for three consecutive years (2005-07). In 2006 David and the band signed with the prestigious Southern California BAJA/TSR Records label and in 2007 released the highly acclaimed "Rumba de la Selva." Cascada celebrated 10 years together this past year with the release of "The Best of Cascada with David Correa 1999-2009" on Zocalo Records. Over the past decade Cascada has showered the hearts and souls of audiences with the sweet rhythms and melodies of their brand of Latin Guitar Fusion.

David Correa: guitar;
Leehoward: world music bassist;
Tim Bolling: drum set player and percussionist.

Jessica Johnson

» jazz standards & contemporary songs arranged with intriguing original jazz twist; smooth and soulful brand of jazz infused R&B

"San Jose native Jessica Johnson has been turning heads and ears with her smooth and soulful brand of jazz infused R&B, earning more praise and awards than most musicians twice her age receive in a lifetime. At 20 years old, what Johnson may lack in professional experience is made up for with a voice as strong and bright as a young Aretha Franklin. Her recently released debut CD, Till It Happens, is a dynamic collection of R&B treasures that span from Stevie Wonder's "You and I" to classics like "Summertime" and "Cry Me a River." With a promising start towards a brilliant career, San Jose's own Jessica Johnson might be one of the next divas of soul."
