Beginning this Thursday, April 20th, exactly ten years and one day later, SBF returns to "The Mission." Mission City Coffee offers a wide variety of sandwiches and other good food, excellent coffee, late hours, plenty of room to accommodate a South Bay Folks crowd, and the current owner is very music-friendly. It is a pleasant space in an old building filled with character, and there are plans afoot to make Mission City a notable South Bay venue for small, acoustic concerts. Whether to play or listen, please stop by this Thursday and let the good folks at Mission City Coffee know how much you appreciate their support of acoustic music: Apr 20 Thu 6:45pm SOUTH BAY FOLKS ACOUSTIC OPEN MIKE (wide variety of acoustic genres), Mission City Coffee Roasting Company, 2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara; free, and open to the public; more info at http://SouthBayFolks.org Directions: From I-880 heading south, take the CA-82 exit to Santa Clara and go 0.3 mi; bear right at The Alameda - go 0.3 mi. From I-880 heading north, take the CA-82 exit - go 0.2 mi; bear left onto the CA-82 N ramp to Santa Clara University and go 120 ft; turn left at The Alameda - go 0.5 mi ******************************************** * A big round of applause, and many thanks * ******************************************** When the sale of the Espresso Garden & Cafe fell through, South Bay Folks put out a call to local musicians and music lovers to help us find a new venue, and you responded in force. Thank you all. Special thanks to those of you who did some of the leg work of checking out venues. One consequence of losing the Garden is that SBF is having to put together a quality, lugable PA system for our open mike. Folks have stepped up there too. Dick Brundle has lent some of Fiddling Cricket's speakers, and Dale Barcellos (of the Mighty Avalanche Choir) is lending a very nice power amp to SBF. Additional assistance is being provided, on very short notice, by Bev Barnett and Greg Newlon (TrueWind Music), and Daphna Rahmil who are helping to cover a variety of hardware needs at the first Mission City open mike. Thank you, too. ********************************************************************** * The Gig List: Calendar of folk and acoustic music in the South Bay * ********************************************************************** The Gig List is a calendar of folk and acoustic music performances in and around the South Bay.
