Sunday, September 24th, 2006 1pm till sunset In front of the Ranger's Office at Vasona Lake County Park 333 Blossom Hill Road, Los Gatos, CA 95032 South Bay Folks turns fourteen this fall, and we're celebrating. Bring your acoustic instruments, voices, picnic baskets, friends, and family. There is plenty of shade, a great view of Vasona Lake, and a big barbecue pit. We'll get the fire started if you want to bring something to grill. Directions: From southbound Highway 17, exit at Lark Avenue and travel east. Turn right on Los Gatos Boulevard and right again onto Blossom Hill Road. The park main entrance will be on the right. Note that the park has a $5 vehicle entry fee if you want to park inside the park; there is free parking along University Ave. Maps and more info at http://SouthBayFolks.org/picnic/ ****************** * "It's so big!" * ****************** That's what folks gasp as they enter the newly remodeled performance room at Mission City Coffee in Santa Clara. Although always a warm and welcoming space with good acoustics, the side room at Mission City Coffee has always been plagued with a large, central pillar that obstructed lines of sight throughout the room. The pillar supported a low, massive support beam that gave the room a somewhat claustrophobic feel despite the soaring height of the ceiling. No more. As of August 10th, the pillar is gone, the room has been widened by some nine feet, and the massive beam has been replaced by a much smaller, laminated wood beam that spans the entire room. The difference is dramatic. For those who haven't seen the new room yet, there are some "before" and "after" photos here: http://SouthBayFolks.org/photos/2006/Mission-City-Renovation/ ...and there are more changes yet to come. *********************************** * SBF Acoustic Open Mike Schedule * *********************************** September 2006 Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa 1 2 3 4 5 6< 7> 8 9 <-- September 7th 10 11 12 13<14> 5 16 <-- September 14th 17 18 19 20<21>22 23 <-- September 21st 24 25 26 27<28>29 30 <-- September 28th October 2006 Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa 1 2 3 4< 5> 6 7 <-- October 5th 8 9 10 11<12> 13 14 <-- October 12th 15 16 17 18<19> 20 21 <-- October 19th 22 23 24 25<26> 27 28 <-- October 25th 29 30 31 SBF Acoustic Open Mike Thursdays from 7-10pm (sign up by 6:45pm) Mission City Coffee Roasting Company 2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050 (adjacent to Santa Clara Univ) tel: 408-261-2221 URL: http://www.SouthBayFolks.org/openmike.html We would like to remind you that until a piano is once again available to us, electronic keyboards set to an acoustic voice are welcomed. Mission City Coffee offers a wide variety of sandwiches and other good food, excellent coffee, late hours, plenty of room to accommodate a South Bay Folks crowd, and the owner is very music-friendly. It is a pleasant space in an old building filled with character, and there are plans afoot to make Mission City a notable South Bay venue for small, acoustic concerts.
