-------------------------- South Bay Folks Newsletter -------------------------- June 19th, 2008 In this edition: - SBF Open Mike and Mission City updates - From the "When it rains, it pours!" department - This week at Vasona Vibrations: City Rocks - San Francisco Free Folk Festival this weekend, Jun 21-22 - How to add or remove yourself from this list ****************************************** * SBF Open Mike and Mission City updates * ****************************************** Mission City Coffee Roasting Company has filed a new request with the City of Santa Clara Planning Commission to modify the cafe's use permit to allow amplified acoustic music six evenings a week. That request will be heard on Wednesday, June 25th, at 7pm in the City Hall Council Chambers at 1500 Warburton Avenue in Santa Clara. If the request passes, the SBF acoustic open mike will be held at Mission City next Thursday, June 26th. If the request is rejected, then Mr Koo will appeal to the Santa Clara City Council. Residents who attended a neighborhood meeting at Mission City on June 2nd came to understand the benign nature and scope of the kinds of music that the Cafe supports. At the end of the meeting there were no objections raised to Mr. Koo pursuing these changes to his use permit. Tomorrow, June 20th, the Planning Commission staff report will be available for review. We will then be able to assess any remaining opposition to the proposed changes, and may request that folks once again attend the meeting in support of Mr. Koo's efforts. Updates are being posted to the open mike web page at http://www.southbayfolks.org/openmike.html and we will immediately send the outcome of next Wednesday's hearing to this list so that you will know if the open mike is on or off. ************************************************** * From the "When it rains, it pours!" Department * ************************************************** As if the beleaguered Mission City Coffee Roasting Company didn't already have enough problems, at about 10pm on Wednesday, June 11th, a speeding car plowed through the front entrance to the cafe, and came to rest mere inches from the front counter. Broken glass and splintered tables and chairs were sent flying throughout the cafe. The cast iron top of the antique coffee grinder that used to sit next to the front door landed at the rear of the building near the coffee roaster. Miraculously, no one was seriously hurt! The cafe was closed for two days for temporary repairs and was able to reopen on Saturday. It does not appear that alcohol was involved. ********************************************** * This week at Vasona Vibrations: City Rocks * ********************************************** The Vasona Vibrations outdoor concert series continues this week at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos with "City Rocks" offering a music revue of the history of San Francisco rock 1965-1985.
