Date: Sun, 05 Mar 2006 07:20:23 -0800 Subject: [SBF News] The Future of the Espresso Garden -------------------------- South Bay Folks Newsletter -------------------------- March 5th, 2006 In this (abbreviated) edition: - The Future of Espresso Garden & Cafe - SBF Acoustic Open Mike Schedule for March 2006 - SBF Gig List: acoustic/folk performances in the South Bay - How to add or remove yourself from this list **************************************** * The Future of Espresso Garden & Cafe * **************************************** We had been holding off sending out a newsletter until we could give you definitive information, but we have been peppered with inquiries. Here's what we know: Most of you are aware that owner Judy Hackett moved to Wisconsin last December to take care of her ailing mother. Her husband, Gene, has remained behind to oversee the sale or dismantling of the Espresso Garden & Cafe. For nearly a decade, the Garden and it's predecessor at the same location, Cafe Trompe l'Oeil, has been the premier venue in the South Bay for world class, live acoustic music. When you consider that the Garden has been home to both South Bay Folks and the venerable Fiddling Cricket Concert Series for the past nine years, is home to the very successful TrueWind Concert Series, the South Bay Guitar Society's Classical Guitar Open Mic, and has hosted events of the West Coast Songwriters, the Northern California Bluegrass Society, the Celtic Society, and so much more, you begin to realize the importance of this venue to the local music scene. We have been waiting with bated breath to learn the fate of the Garden, and we're pleased to tell you that a serious buyer with intent to keep the music has made an offer. Although a meeting of minds has yet to be achieved, buyer and seller appear to be close. Expect more news early this week. *********************************** * SBF Acoustic Open Mike Schedule * *********************************** [NOTE: There is an extra open mike this month on March 30th.] As always, these events are free and open to all acoustic musicians/singers/songwriters.
