-------------------------- South Bay Folks Newsletter -------------------------- June 4th, 2008 In this edition: - First, the Bad News: SBF Open Mike Temporarily Suspended - 6th Annual Vasona Vibrations Concert Series Begins Saturday - 2nd Harvest Food Bank: "Share Your Lunch!" at Vasona Vibrations - How to add or remove yourself from this list ************************************************************ * First, the Bad News: SBF Open Mike Temporarily Suspended * ************************************************************ Last week's hearing for Mission City Coffee's special use permit didn't go exactly as planned: Mission City got the wine and beer permit, but has been restricted to offering unamplified music on Friday and Saturday evenings only. This was a completely unexpected result. The South Bay Folks open mike is suspended for now. Because of the short notice, some South Bay Folkies will be at the Cafe Thursday night to answer questions for those who didn't get the word. Attempts are under way to fix this. A neighborhood meeting was held Monday night at Mission City. It quickly became obvious that residents are angry and upset over nuisances that are being caused by *other* businesses in the area. (Complaints included loud music heard by some residents that was actually originating from Santa Clara University, and trash found on lawns which was comprised of fast food wrappers and beer bottles not sold by Mission City.) Following a productive discussion, residents were asked if anyone had an objection to six nights per week of acoustic music with reasonable amplification. There were none. It is expected to take a couple of weeks to receive the permission for the extended music hours, at which point we should be able to resume the open mikes, albeit without amplification. It will take a little more time to get permission for amplified music. There are no guarantees, but we expect all of this to get sorted out. Stay tuned. And now for some Good News... *************************************************************** * 6th Annual Vasona Vibrations Concert Series Begins Saturday * *************************************************************** Once again, Santa Clara County Parks and South Bay Folks team up to bring you free, family-friendly concerts from 5-7pm, every Saturday in June and July: 6th Annual Vasona Vibrations Concert Series (featuring a wide variety of acoustic genres by local artists) Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd., Los Gatos, CA Located in a pleasant outdoor setting overlooking Vasona Lake and Los Gatos Creek, this series features local artists performing a wide variety of acoustic genres ranging from Americana, to big band, to Celtic, to jazz, to traditional and contemporary folk, and more.
